Computer Reformat or Reinstallation

When your desktop pc or laptop often hang or crashes, sometime this could be caused by software malfunction. This can be fixed by reformating and reinstalling your computer fresh.

What is reformatting?

Computer reformatting is a process of clearing up your storage and reinstalling it again with a fresh operating system. Before this process is done, it is very important to back up your data first while it is still possible. On some cases, due to a crash in the software, users are no longer able to login into the operating system. You don’t need to panic, if this is cause by system crash, most of the time, you data will still be inside the hard disk. You can bring in the computer for our technician to diagnose and back up your data.

How often should I reformat?

You don’t have to reformat your computer every week or once a month. There are no specific time when one should reformat and rebuild the system from scratch. Proper computer maintenance will reduce the need for you to reformat the machine.

Things like, making sure you have antivirus and its up to date, defragment your hard disk regularly, update your operating system regularly will help your system to run smoothly.

Make sure that you always back up your data regularly then you won’t have to worry when your system crashes or need to be reformatted.

When should I consider reformatting my computer?

Sometime even with superb regular maintenance, computer is not immune to crashes or glitches. The obvious symptom is when you are unable to login to windows due to some OS error or accidental component of your OS being removed.

Examples of the less obvious symtoms would be:

  • The computer produces warning of errors and some of the program does not work properly.
  • Recently infected by malicious viruses or spywares, which destroys the windows component files.
  • Interrupted or unsuccessful windows update.
  • System very lag and or computer is running extremely slow than what it should normally.

What are the benefits of reformatting your computer?

  • After you reformat, if it’s not caused by hardware malfunction, all the errors will be fixed.
  • The computer will run smooth and fast like the first time you bought the computer.
  • All viruses and spywares are removed.

How long does it takes?

The time frame required to reformat and reinstall your computer is normally around 2-3 hours. However this will vary depending on the speed of your computer, whether data backup is required, and whether there are other issue such as hardware malfunction/s that’s causes the error.
